Grundner's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Felix Brandl was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Elmo Juratovic got free with Angelo Meist in the 19th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Felix Brandl scored 0-2 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Berthold Woitzik, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Vladimir Scherf fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Berthold Woitzik having to interfere. In the 29th minute, Dominik Fuchs fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Angelo Meist, passed just outside the right post. In the 30th match minute, FSV Thale 23 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Torsten Panetta to maneuver through the defense. In the 44th minute Reiner Wörner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Berthold Woitzik saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Berthold Woitzik showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vladimir Scherf, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Felix Brandl to make the kick off.
