The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Paavo Hilljegerdes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Erno Veiser in the 21st minute of the match. If Torsten Biehlert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paavo Hilljegerdes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Erno Veiser, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. 29 minutes into the game, SC Tannenhausen's Eibo Lade nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Christoph Mayer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. After a rather tough play, Hamburger SV's Kurt Hegendörfer got a free kick in the 33rd minute. The corner led SC Tannenhausen's Johannes Sprenger to fire away a dangerous shot which Christoph Mayer despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Christoph Mayer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eibo Lade, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Hamburger SV players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. SC Tannenhausen were winning 0-2.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Erno Veiser in the 52nd minute of play forced SC Tannenhausen's goalkeeper Paavo Hilljegerdes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 55 minutes into the game, Erno Veiser was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Hamburger SV's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SC Tannenhausen the free kick. After a rather tough play, Hamburger SV's Erno Veiser got a free kick in the 55th minute. 57 minutes into the game, Johannes Sprenger recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Christoph Mayer. Hamburger SV's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-4. Johannes Sprenger's late challenge caught a Hamburger SV's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. When Eibo Lade in the 74th play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Christoph Mayer kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 0-5 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. SC Tannenhausen's Toni Schönbucher got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Torsten Biehlert's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 80thth minute, Christoph Mayer skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 82nd minute, Hamburger SV's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Toni Schönbucher fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 85th minute Zacharias Hölsch shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Christoph Mayer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With his leg Christoph Mayer managed to avoid a goal in the 87thth minute, when SC Tannenhausen's Torsten Biehlert fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Johannes Sprenger could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Christoph Mayer made a huge save. SC Tannenhausen's Paavo Hilljegerdes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Efraim Stauffen in the 89th minute of play. SC Tannenhausen played a much better game than Hamburger SV and deserved their victory. The Hamburger SV players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
