The supporters of Hamburger SV booed when TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edgar Junglas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Menno Auchter showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hartwig Gleixner in the 18th minute of the match. Hartwig Gleixner struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Menno Auchter didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hamburger SV. Hartwig Gleixner took the ball and in the 23 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Menno Auchter. Menno Auchter dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Philip Schröck could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Christoph Mayer made a huge save. Hamburger SV's Hartwig Gleixner got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hamburger SV's Christoph Mayer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Philip Schröck in the 31st minute of play. Erno Veiser sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Christoph Mayer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Philip Schröck in the 35th minute of play. If Connor Werres had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Erno Veiser in the 41st minute of play forced TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's goalkeeper Menno Auchter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 43rd minute Hartwig Gleixner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Menno Auchter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Connor Werres received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Christoph Mayer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hamburger SV's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave TSG 1899 Hoffenheim the free kick. But to his dismay, Philip Schröck quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1.
