Sven Hummel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felix Theißen, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. In the 17th minute, Felix Theißen ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sven Hummel was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mirco Gürtler in the 22nd minute of play forced Höxter's goalkeeper Pär Schiffer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Felix Theißen came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Höxter fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Felix Theißen couldn't finish the play. Olaf Brütt's late challenge caught a Höxter's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Olaf Brütt helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to VFL Borussia Sittard getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Olaf Brütt hit a great ball. Torsten Hassenrück sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Drago Kaupa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 50th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Pär Schiffer having to make a save. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

In the 59th minute Leonid Dumpis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pär Schiffer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Mirco Gürtler fell near the penalty area in the 60th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored VFL Borussia Sittard's protests and gave Mirco Gürtler a yellow card for diving instead. After 61 played minutes VFL Borussia Sittard got a freekick which was hit by Mirco Gürtler. Sven Hummel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Torsten Hassenrück, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 66 minutes into the match, Höxter's Felix Theißen sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Sven Hummel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Torsten Hassenrück sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Torsten Hassenrück might have been able to make a better finish in the 70th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Sven Hummel. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Torsten Hassenrück ran back to his position shaking his head. After recieving a nice pass, Höxter's Carsten Claus tried to score from far away in the 72nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 74 minutes into the match, VFL Borussia Sittard's goal looked a bit too open when Torsten Hassenrück came free, but Sven Hummel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Torsten Hassenrück had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Felix Theißen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 94th minute, Barnabas Schnarr hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Torsten Hassenrück in the 97th minute of play forced VFL Borussia Sittard's goalkeeper Sven Hummel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 98 minutes into the match, Höxter's goalkeeper Pär Schiffer had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Drago Kaupa. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Höxter fans cheered their team off the field, for while VFL Borussia Sittard had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
