Dynamo Grimma were furious when Stefan Kiefert was red carded, 8 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In a very dangerous position, a player in Dynamo Grimma fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 7th minute. Penalty! 12 minutes into the match, Dynamo Grimma's goal looked a bit too open when Mark Galeski came free, but Matti Heidsiek reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Bankholzen booed when Dynamo Grimma was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Egon Schütte didn't get a good kick on the ball. Henriko Vollack fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matti Heidsiek having to interfere. Ted Falter could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Ralf Heiß made a huge save. In the 27th minute Mathias Ludwig shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matti Heidsiek saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Oleg Boshold had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mark Galeski took the ball and in the 35 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Matti Heidsiek. Matti Heidsiek dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. The supporters of Bankholzen booed when Dynamo Grimma was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kilian Gerken didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 41st minute Gordon Fischer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matti Heidsiek saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 46 minutes into the game, Ferdinand Koeppen was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Dynamo Grimma's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Bankholzen the free kick. The Dynamo Grimma players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Bankholzen were winning 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ted Falter to make the kick off. Matti Heidsiek didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Henriko Vollack went, in the 53rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. Matti Heidsiek showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Karsten Schertz in the 59th minute of the match. In the 59th minute, Oleg Boshold hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 68th minute, Oleg Boshold got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 70 minutes into the game, Dynamo Grimma's Ted Falter nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ralf Heiß made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. Henriko Vollack hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. The supporters of Bankholzen booed when Dynamo Grimma was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Egon Schütte didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Olaf Nordmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ted Falter received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Ralf Heiß tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Olaf Nordmann recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 86 minutes, Ted Falter managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Dynamo Grimma's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ted Falter was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ferry Oppmann struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Ralf Heiß didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Dynamo Grimma. Matti Heidsiek showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mathias Ludwig in the 96th minute of the match. Ralf Heiß showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ted Falter, who was totally free with the ball in the 97th minute.
