The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to FC Bernau getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Zlatko Schilling hit a great ball. Robert Matthiessen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Olaf Humbert, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With his leg Daniel Kalb managed to avoid a goal in the 9thth minute, when FC Bernau's Uwe Scherpp fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Oliver Rohde hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Moselkern's Hippo Winterhalter got a free kick in the 12th minute. Daniel Kalb was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Volker Wiehn showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 15 minute of play. When the match clock showed 19 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Jaap Geenen sped through FC Bernau's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Robert Matthiessen. Uwe Scherpp came free with the goalkeeper in the 26th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Daniel Kalb could save by the left post. The audience thought a goal was coming when Uwe Scherpp got free with Daniel Kalb in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Olaf Humbert in the 29th minute of play forced FC Bernau's goalkeeper Robert Matthiessen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Uwe Scherpp received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Daniel Kalb tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Uwe Scherpp might have been able to make a better finish in the 37th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Daniel Kalb. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Uwe Scherpp ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 38thth minute of the game Volker Wiehn who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Moselkern's Daniel Kalb was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Moselkern booed when FC Bernau was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kester Banges didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 42 played minutes, Moselkern's Hippo Winterhalter shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Robert Matthiessen came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Moselkern reached it. Robert Matthiessen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Olaf Humbert in the 43rd minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Pascal Holtei in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Daniel Kalb prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Volker Wiehn recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Daniel Kalb took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Uwe Scherpp, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 54th minute Olaf Humbert shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Robert Matthiessen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Kalb stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Marc Amsteinler's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. After having played for 56 minutes, Uwe Scherpp managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Bernau's supporters crossed their fingers, but Uwe Scherpp was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 58th match minute, Moselkern was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jaap Geenen to maneuver through the defense. Daniel Kalb took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Uwe Scherpp, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Robert Matthiessen was out of position in the 61 minute of play, and Olaf Humbert capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Olaf Humbert really showed his touch with that goal: 1-2.
