Harold Gelb took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mladen Huthreuter, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With his leg Harold Gelb managed to avoid a goal in the 13thth minute, when 1.FC Köln's Bartolomeo Walter fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Theodor Behnke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Percy Skjelbred having to interfere. Percy Skjelbred stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hansjörg Kala's shot from short distance in the 17th minute. Harold Gelb made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mladen Huthreuter in the 19th minute of play. 21 minutes into the game, Gerd Winitzki was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Storp's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave 1.FC Köln the free kick. The supporters of Storp booed when 1.FC Köln was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hannes Abernett didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hansjörg Kala in the 34th minute of play forced 1.FC Köln's goalkeeper Percy Skjelbred to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gunnar Kirchberger kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. Hansjörg Kala sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

The wind increased when Mladen Huthreuter made the kick off in the second half. In the 50th minute, Mischa Lange hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Theodor Behnke succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-1 in the 63rd playminute. Gerd Winitzki hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mischa Lange during the 71st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 70 minutes into the game, one of Storp:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Gunnar Kirchberger shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Theodor Behnke received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Percy Skjelbred tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Bartolomeo Walter managed to get in a good position for a shot. 1.FC Köln's supporters rose to their feet, but Bartolomeo Walter was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Harold Gelb breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 80th match minute, Storp was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gerd Winitzki to maneuver through the defense. Percy Skjelbred showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hansjörg Kala in the 84th minute of the match. After 92 minutes of play, 1.FC Köln's Mladen Huthreuter made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Harold Gelb was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Gerd Winitzki was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 96 minutes had been played. Gerd Winitzki hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
