When Johannes Richter fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Raubling's protests and gave Johannes Richter a yellow card for diving instead. Johannes Richter hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. When Malte Thamm, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 12 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Nicolas Liebig was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. 14 minutes into the game, Tsuneo Obele cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Nicolas Liebig was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Tsuneo Obele received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Nicolas Liebig tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 27 minutes into the match, Werder Bremen's Malte Thamm sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nicolas Liebig narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 29 minutes into the game, Mirko Strachowitz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Patrick Orth was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Raubling's Nicolas Liebig played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tsuneo Obele in the 33rd minute of play. When Tsuneo Obele came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the Werder Bremen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tsuneo Obele couldn't finish the play. Werder Bremen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tsuneo Obele was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nicolas Liebig stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tsuneo Obele's shot from short distance in the 85th minute. Tsuneo Obele received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nicolas Liebig came out and tried to block the shot, but Tsuneo Obele slotted it home off the left post making it 2-2 in the 87th minute. Nicolas Liebig was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Tsuneo Obele showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-3 in the 93 minute of play.
