Bartolomeo Walter struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Robert Platen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for 1.FC Köln. 1.FC Köln's Gunnar Kirchberger couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 20th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for The Killers. A collision led to The Killers getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Guntram Hannemann hit a great ball. 23 minutes into the game, Aaron Dersewski was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. The Killers's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave 1.FC Köln the free kick. A collision led to The Killers getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Aaron Dersewski hit a great ball. When Guntram Hannemann was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 26 minutes had been played. In the 28th minute, 1.FC Köln's Maximilian Hiller-Schmid dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Bartolomeo Walter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Robert Platen having to interfere. Robert Platen made an important save on a dangerous shot by Maximilian Hiller-Schmid in the 38th minute. After 41 played minutes The Killers got a freekick which was hit by Stig Schmermbeck. An unexpectedly hard shot by Harro Hetz in the 44th minute of play forced 1.FC Köln's goalkeeper Percy Skjelbred to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Maximilian Hiller-Schmid had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bartolomeo Walter was the one to do the kick off. Yannik Hambrecht's late challenge caught a 1.FC Köln's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bartolomeo Walter sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The 1.FC Köln fans' excitement grew in the 57th match minute when 1.FC Köln's Bartolomeo Walter looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Bartolomeo Walter had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Robert Platen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bartolomeo Walter in the 73rd minute of play. In the 74th minute, Maximilian Hiller-Schmid made a precise shot to the right of Robert Platen. The Killers's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. An unexpected shot in the 78th minute by Harro Hetz got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 1.FC Köln's Erhard Kobitzki suffered a sore thigh after 80 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The Killers's Aaron Dersewski got his second yellow card of the match in the 80th minute. The referee ordered Aaron Dersewski off the ground. A very good chance.
