Gelsenkirchen United's Jo Fuhl played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gunnar Kretz in the 20th minute of play. Igli Schlüter received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Jo Fuhl tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gunnar Kretz hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lutz Fach in the 32nd minute of play forced Gelsenkirchen United's goalkeeper Jo Fuhl to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jo Fuhl made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Igli Schlüter in the 33rd minute of play. Gelsenkirchen United's attentive Jerome Heerckes managed to snatch the ball when Jakov Rosenbauer made a throw-in in the 34th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gunnar Kretz in the 37th minute of play forced Gelsenkirchen United's goalkeeper Jo Fuhl to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 39 played minutes Kleingern got a freekick which was hit by Lucas Hardel. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lutz Fach in the 41st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jo Fuhl saved Gelsenkirchen United from getting behind. 44 minutes into the match, Kleingern's Igli Schlüter sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jo Fuhl narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Lutz Fach was the one to do the kick off. Igli Schlüters short, quick shot in the 54thth minute got Jo Fuhl to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dario Langhammer during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 59 minutes into the match, Igli Schlüter had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jo Fuhl. Gelsenkirchen United's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Igli Schlüter was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Jo Fuhl showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lutz Fach, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. After 67th play minutes Igli Schlüter shot 0-2, a short shot which went by Jo Fuhl and just under the crossbar into goal. Lutz Fach was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 70th minute. Kleingern's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Gelsenkirchen United's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Lutz Fach 71 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-3. A collision led to Kleingern getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Gunnar Kretz hit a great ball. Gelsenkirchen United's Jo Fuhl played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lutz Fach in the 82nd minute of play. Igli Schlüter took the ball and in the 83 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jo Fuhl. Jo Fuhl dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-4. Lutz Fach received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Jo Fuhl tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 90 played minutes Kleingern got a freekick which was hit by Igli Schlüter. In the 92nd minute of the match, Igli Schlüter got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jo Fuhl was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. A collision led to Gelsenkirchen United getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Jerome Heerckes hit a great ball. Igli Schlüter who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 96thth minute tested the skills of Jo Fuhl when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Kleingern's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
