Donald Kasten made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. Merten's Armin Reh got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Donald Kasten took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eric Fritzen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Merten getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Eric Fritzen hit a great ball. If Hanno Gafus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 82 played minutes Merten got a freekick which was hit by Claus Renger. After 85 minutes Merten's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Sevim Scheelen who took care of the corner kick. Sevim Scheelen made a great header on TSV 1893 Leipzig-Wahren's corner, it was just that Merten's Johann Dilling managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 95th minute, Eric Fritzen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
