Bartolomeo Weißbrot guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. If Armin Reh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eric Fritzen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Armin Reh's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bartolomeo Weißbrot was relentless in the 26th minute of the game. 29 minutes into the game, Merten's Armin Reh nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Johann Dilling showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Renatus Heimann, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. In the 43rd minute, Renatus Heimann got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Adnan Beckstedde's late challenge caught a SuS Scheidingen's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Adnan Beckstedde helped the player get up and apologised. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After a defensive mix-up in Merten's zone, Beat Schöne stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Johann Dilling came out of the goal and Beat Schöne tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 56 minutes into the match, Merten's goal looked a bit too open when Beat Schöne came free, but Johann Dilling reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 60th minute, SuS Scheidingen's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Eric Fritzen fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. A collision led to SuS Scheidingen getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Felix Klages hit a great ball. After having played for 65 minutes, Armin Reh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Merten's supporters crossed their fingers, but Armin Reh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Matthias Damerau fell near the penalty area in the 66th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Merten's protests and gave Matthias Damerau a yellow card for diving instead. Armin Reh's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bartolomeo Weißbrot read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 73rd minute of play. Eric Fritzen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Merten booed when SuS Scheidingen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Klages didn't get a good kick on the ball. 80 minutes into the match, SuS Scheidingen's goalkeeper Bartolomeo Weißbrot had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Armin Reh. Eric Fritzen took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Bartolomeo Weißbrot. Bartolomeo Weißbrot dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-4. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Eric Fritzen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Merten's supporters rose to their feet, but Eric Fritzen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bartolomeo Weißbrot breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
