In the 28th minute, Claus Nomayo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Thilo Borgelt was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Lou Rockstein took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gunther Polder, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lou Rockstein showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gunther Polder, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. After a defensive mix-up in FC Würzburger Kickers's zone, Robert Möllmann stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

FC Würzburger Kickers's Lou Rockstein played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Per Gulden in the 72nd minute of play. Thilo Borgelt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eggert Bleiziffer, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. With an all-out effort, FC Würzburger Kickers's Thilo Borgelt threw himself towards the right post 79 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Hellmut Balterschütz, which otherwise would have been placed in the net.
