The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Christos Thies sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 6 minutes, James Daecher mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SV Sandhausen and the Sange players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 6th match minute, SV Sandhausen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by James Daecher to maneuver through the defense. In the 7th minute, Dieter Kästner made a precise shot to the right of Joachim Deckert. SV Sandhausen's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Joris Bülow made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jürgen Immel in the 11th minute of play. Sascha Kebeis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Joris Bülow tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dieter Kästner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. SV Sandhausen's Hagen Sinning pulled a muscle in his back after 26 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dieter Kästner during the 26th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 27 played minutes Sange got a freekick which was hit by Dieter Kästner. Dieter Kästner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dieter Kästner in the 42nd minute of play forced SV Sandhausen's goalkeeper Joachim Deckert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the SV Sandhausen defense, Dieter Kästner kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joachim Deckert. The SV Sandhausen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joachim Deckert should have stopped the shot. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Joachim Deckert didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dieter Kästner went, in the 52nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. Dieter Kästner had several of the SV Sandhausen's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 57 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-4 score and a disappointed Joachim Deckert as he didn't even see the shot coming. 62 minutes into the game, Sange's Dieter Kästner nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joachim Deckert made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-5. Joachim Deckert made a fantastic save in the 65th minute, when Dieter Kästner sent off a good shot on target. Dieter Kästner spun around in front of the goal 69 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of SV Sandhausen's goal. Edmund Grotthaus sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dieter Kästner received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Joachim Deckert tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hugo Frankenhauser hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. SV Sandhausen's Noel Bayer couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 87th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Sange. After 89 played minutes Sange got a freekick which was hit by Othmar Weibe. Joachim Deckert made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dieter Kästner in the 91st minute. After 93 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for SV Sandhausen! The referee gave Sange a penalty, 94 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Hugo Frankenhauser, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of SV Sandhausen's Joachim Deckert. 1-7. After 97 played minutes SV Sandhausen got a freekick which was hit by Helmut Schöpf. When the final whistle sounded Sange left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than SV Sandhausen.
