Erwin Hayer made a fantastic save in the 9th minute, when Ted Habbel sent off a good shot on target. If Ted Habbel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Gelsenkirchener jungs booed when Niederehe FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Conrad Themann didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Ted Habbel came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Gelsenkirchener jungs fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ted Habbel couldn't finish the play. In the 19th minute, Johannes Notthoff hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ted Habbel got free with Erwin Hayer in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in Niederehe FC's zone, Lennart Pleschke stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Erwin Hayer came out of the goal and Lennart Pleschke tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ty Burschick recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 47th minute, Anjo Kölzig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ty Burschick to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ted Habbel in the 52nd minute of play forced Niederehe FC's goalkeeper Erwin Hayer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ted Habbel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erwin Hayer having to interfere. In the 60th match minute, Niederehe FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ilja Ehrenberg to maneuver through the defense. After 61 played minutes, Gelsenkirchener jungs's Vladimir Jeneks shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Erwin Hayer came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Gelsenkirchener jungs reached it. After 63 played minutes Gelsenkirchener jungs got a freekick which was hit by Tonio Stehmer. Niederehe FC's Conrad Themann shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 64th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Otmar Elsner but with some difficulty. Gelsenkirchener jungs's Otmar Elsner played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ty Burschick in the 66th minute of play. Erwin Hayer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lennart Pleschke in the 69th minute of the match. Lennart Pleschke struck a weak shot in the 71st minute. Erwin Hayer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gelsenkirchener jungs. After 75 minutes of play, Gelsenkirchener jungs's Lennart Pleschke made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Erwin Hayer was left in no man's land by his defense there! Otmar Elsner came out of the goal in the 82nd minute to try and stop a shot by Niederehe FC's Dietbald Nissler. But to his dismay, Dietbald Nissler quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. Ty Burschick fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Otmar Elsner having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Ted Habbel managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gelsenkirchener jungs's supporters rose to their feet, but Ted Habbel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Erwin Hayer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 96th minute, Johannes Notthoff hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Lennart Pleschke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 100th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
