Spectators: 6828 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1828, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Torsten Klopp got the match started through his kick off. Vladimir Jeneks took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 9th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Jochen Gehlen. Goldhausen FSV's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 17th minute, Anjo Kölzig left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Gelsenkirchener jungs fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Gelsenkirchener jungs's Ted Habbel got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Lennart Pleschke managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gelsenkirchener jungs's supporters rose to their feet, but Lennart Pleschke was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jochen Gehlen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ted Habbel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Michael-Peter Schweers hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ted Habbel couldn't finish the play. Lennart Pleschke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jochen Gehlen having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Ted Habbel put it in 0-3 from a short distance just to the right of Jochen Gehlen. In the 43rd minute Lennart Pleschke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jochen Gehlen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Gelsenkirchener jungs were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Goldhausen FSV's Jochen Gehlen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lennart Pleschke in the 65th minute of play. If Lennart Pleschke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Otmar Elsner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Heiko Duerr in the 82nd minute of play. Goldhausen FSV's Jochen Gehlen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lennart Pleschke in the 84th minute of play. Goldhausen FSV's Jochen Gehlen proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 89th minute of the match, managed to save Goldhausen FSV from getting a goal against them. Gelsenkirchener jungs played a much better game than Goldhausen FSV and deserved their victory. The Goldhausen FSV players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
