The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Gelsenkirchener jungs. The goalkeeper, Otmar Elsner, was totally fooled by Hansa Rostock's Siegfried Gabler, who 9 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Otmar Elsner stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ashley Bäßler's shot from short distance in the 12th minute. Ashley Bäßler scored 2-0 in the 16th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Otmar Elsner, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 19 minutes into the match, Gelsenkirchener jungs's goal looked a bit too open when Ashley Bäßler came free, but Otmar Elsner reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hansa Rostock were awarded a corner in the 21th minute after Gelsenkirchener jungs's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Siegfried Gabler took the corner. Tonio Stehmer tried in the game's 21st match minute to clear up in front of his own goal but it went so bad that he put the ball into the goal to the left of an unhappy Otmar Elsner. An annoying self made goal, 3-0. Ashley Bäßler succeeded in the game's 27th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 4-0. Anjo Kölzig hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 33rd minute, Ted Habbel managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gelsenkirchener jungs's supporters rose to their feet, but Ted Habbel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Davor Saller breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Gelsenkirchener jungs booed when Hansa Rostock was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jörg Bohnsack didn't get a good kick on the ball. Otmar Elsner took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Timur Pilz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Otmar Elsner showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ashley Bäßler in the 44th minute of the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-1 at half-time.

The wind increased when Lennart Pleschke made the kick off in the second half. When the match had gone on for 51 minutes, Ilja Wöllner put it in 5-1 from a short distance just to the right of Otmar Elsner. After a defensive mix-up in Hansa Rostock's zone, Ted Habbel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Davor Saller came out of the goal and Ted Habbel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 56th minute Lennart Pleschke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Davor Saller saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice moves Ted Habbel could shoot a difficult shot in the 58th minute, which Davor Saller however easily saved by the left post. Otmar Elsner came out of the goal and Ashley Bäßler tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
