Seating: 1575, VIP seats: 50) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Hellmut Karrenbauer started the match with the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Joachim Ochs during the 3rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 3 played minutes Motor Altenburg got a freekick which was hit by Joachim Ochs. After a defensive mix-up in VFB Stuttgart's zone, Markus Mandel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tobias Guenther came out of the goal and Markus Mandel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Hellmut Karrenbauer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hubert Weschke having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Hellmut Karrenbauer managed to get in a good position for a shot. VFB Stuttgart's supporters rose to their feet, but Hellmut Karrenbauer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hubert Weschke breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 31st minute Markus Mandel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tobias Guenther saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Motor Altenburg fans' excitement grew in the 34th match minute when Motor Altenburg's Markus Mandel looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After a rather tough play, VFB Stuttgart's Reto Moratschke got a free kick in the 40th minute. Hellmut Karrenbauer struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Hubert Weschke didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for VFB Stuttgart. In the 45th minute, Rolf Stotz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hellmut Karrenbauer got free with Hubert Weschke in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Markus Mandel came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Motor Altenburg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Markus Mandel couldn't finish the play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Markus Mandel to strike the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the match, Motor Altenburg's goal looked a bit too open when Michael Paulssen came free, but Hubert Weschke reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A hard shot by Eduard Bunge from long distance, 55 minutes into the match, got Tobias Guenther's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. 60 minutes into the match, Markus Mandel dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Tobias Guenther, 1-2. Herrmann Rocker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hubert Weschke having to interfere. Hubert Weschke showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hellmut Karrenbauer, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. 68 minutes into the game, Reto Moratschke was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. VFB Stuttgart's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Motor Altenburg the free kick. A collision led to VFB Stuttgart getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Reto Moratschke hit a great ball. The audience thought it was a sure goal in the 69th minute, when Motor Altenburg's Joachim Ochs after having done a great run through the defense got himself free with Tobias Guenther in VFB Stuttgart's goal and fired away a shot, but it missed the goal by a fraction of an inch. 74 minutes into the match, Hellmut Karrenbauer had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Hubert Weschke. Motor Altenburg's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Hellmut Karrenbauer was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. The supporters of VFB Stuttgart booed when Motor Altenburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Markus Mandel didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match had gone on for 78 minutes, Hellmut Karrenbauer put it in 3-2 from a short distance just to the right of Hubert Weschke. Markus Mandel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Tobias Guenther made an important save on a dangerous shot by Markus Mandel in the 81st minute. 84 minutes into the match, Rolf Stotz notched a goal, 3-3, to the right of VFB Stuttgart's Tobias Guenther. Tobias Guenther was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Eduard Bunge's late challenge caught a VFB Stuttgart's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eduard Bunge helped the player get up and apologised. In the 87th match minute, Motor Altenburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eduard Bunge to maneuver through the defense. Walther Börnsen, 88 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. In the 89th match minute, VFB Stuttgart was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ulf Hambrecht to maneuver through the defense. Naohiro Wuong fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tobias Guenther having to interfere. Naohiro Wuong received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Tobias Guenther tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Motor Altenburg players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
