Pausa SV were furious when Tihomir Möhring was red carded, 41 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The goalkeeper, Mito Zahov, was totally fooled by TSV 1860 München's Klaus Havertz, who 43 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Mito Zahov showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luis Pfeiffer, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. TSV 1860 München's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
