Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gunnar Ahlquist scored 1-1 in the 21st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Anastasio Santo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Gavino Unax's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Anastasio Santo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. In the 26th minute Gunnar Ahlquist shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Anastasio Santo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 28 minutes, Curtis Ohrem managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Trabzonspor's supporters crossed their fingers, but Curtis Ohrem was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alisson González made an important save on a dangerous shot by Raimund Taxis in the 33rd minute. Anastasio Santo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gunnar Ahlquist, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 38 minutes of play, Wolfsburg's Gavino Unax made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Anastasio Santo was left in no man's land by his defense there! Wolfsburg's Alisson González played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Raimund Taxis in the 42nd minute of play. Anastasio Santo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gavino Unax's shot from short distance in the 45th minute. The Trabzonspor players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Wolfsburg were winning 1-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Raimund Taxis to make the kick off. When Gavino Unax came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Wolfsburg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gavino Unax couldn't finish the play. Raimund Taxis might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Alisson González. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Raimund Taxis ran back to his position shaking his head. Raimund Taxis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Alisson González tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Wolfsburg's Alisson González played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kasper Spann in the 92nd minute of play. Although Trabzonspor had been in control for most of the match, Wolfsburg still came away with the win.
