The Großberghofen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rufus Bangert should have stopped the shot. Sven-Olof Lilja hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Großberghofen's zone, Don Merlot stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rufus Bangert came out of the goal and Don Merlot tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 41 minutes of play, SSV Ulm 1846's Niclas Monschke made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Rufus Bangert was left in no man's land by his defense there! Rufus Bangert made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Don Merlot in the 46th minute of play. Disappointed in the 2-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Don Merlot made the kick off in the second half. Kryspin Cupial took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edwin Eberl, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched SSV Ulm 1846 eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
