Hubert Strebel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter Lussier having to interfere. 11 minutes into the match, Cagliari's goal looked a bit too open when Yannis Lauri came free, but Peter Lussier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 16th minute Harald Hegner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Connor Schällibaum saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 25th minute of the game. One of Cagliari:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Mon:s goal. Peter Lussier had in the 28thth minute some difficulties stopping Yannis Lauri's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Flo Hoch recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Peter Lussier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sebastien Kolb, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. In the 35th minute Freeman Sperisen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Peter Lussier saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Carl Rutten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 41 minutes into the match, Cagliari's goal looked a bit too open when Yannis Lauri came free, but Peter Lussier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Yannis Lauri sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Yannis Lauri was the one to do the kick off. After 53 played minutes Cagliari got a freekick which was hit by Gabriele Geiser. After a rather tough play, Mon's Flo Hoch got a free kick in the 58th minute. Carl Rutten might have been able to make a better finish in the 59th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Connor Schällibaum. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Carl Rutten ran back to his position shaking his head. Mon's Yannis Lauri got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Mon made a substitution. Ivo Batsch replaced Federico Sevier. Peter Lussier stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mirko Giacomozzi's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mirko Giacomozzi got free with Peter Lussier in the 75th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 77th minute of the match, Hubert Strebel tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Peter Lussier saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When Mathias Naumann fell near the penalty area in the 80th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cagliari's protests and gave Mathias Naumann a yellow card for diving instead. After 80 played minutes Cagliari got a freekick which was hit by Mathias Naumann. Mon's Constantin Lajoie was substituted for Flo Hoch. A collision led to Cagliari getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Mathias Naumann hit a great ball. The supporters of Mon booed when Cagliari was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alexej Stübi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mirko Giacomozzi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter Lussier having to interfere. Cagliari's Peter Lussier proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 94th minute of the match, managed to save Cagliari from getting a goal against them. Mon's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
