The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 45th minute of the game. One of Gampel:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of F.C.Porto:s goal. Randy Wasser went to the wrong direction when Dawson Trüssel was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. After the first half F.C.Porto were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jacques Bernuzzi to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Gampel booed when F.C.Porto was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mark Lukas didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Tade Meyer managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gampel's supporters rose to their feet, but Tade Meyer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ivan Coulombe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
