Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Gunt's Geraldo Nussbaum started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Cláudio Taffarel made a fantastic save in the 2nd minute, when Rodolphe Rochat sent off a good shot on target. After 4 played minutes Berne Wanderers FC got a freekick which was hit by Fernando Erni. Andy Held took the ball and in the 13 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Quintinus Freeh. Quintinus Freeh dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. With a little luck, Berne Wanderers FC's Cláudio Taffarel got control of the ball when Rodolphe Rochat tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Geraldo Nussbaum in the 20th minute of play forced Berne Wanderers FC's goalkeeper Cláudio Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 22 minutes into the game, Roland Hunkeler cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Cláudio Taffarel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The supporters of Gunt booed when Berne Wanderers FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kristian Reuteler didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 28th minute, Rodolphe Rochat got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Geraldo Nussbaum kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. In the 33rd minute Geraldo Nussbaum shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cláudio Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 37th match minute, Berne Wanderers FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lamberto Riedweg to maneuver through the defense. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lamberto Riedweg stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Robby Schaer ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Quintinus Freeh was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. In the 56th match minute, Gunt was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nicola Diederich to maneuver through the defense. Geraldo Nussbaum sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cláudio Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Geraldo Nussbaum in the 61st minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Roman Faber during the 62nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Roman Faber hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Quintinus Freeh made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Robby Schaer sent off a good shot on target. Lamberto Riedweg struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Quintinus Freeh didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Berne Wanderers FC. 2-3 became the score in the 81st minute when Robby Schaer elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Robby Schaer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Quintinus Freeh tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Andy Held had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 90th minute, Lamberto Riedweg reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Quintinus Freeh. The goal made the score 2-4. The Berne Wanderers FC players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
