Clayton Helmholz hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lamberto Riedweg in the 13th minute of play forced Brenles FC's goalkeeper Norbert Furst to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 15 minutes into the match, Brenles FC's goalkeeper Norbert Furst had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Robby Schaer. An unexpectedly hard shot by Murathan Baransel in the 17th minute of play forced Berne Wanderers FC's goalkeeper Cláudio Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Ernestin Brünisholz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Brenles FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Ernestin Brünisholz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cláudio Taffarel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Brenles FC's Norbert Furst played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lamberto Riedweg in the 24th minute of play. Cláudio Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ernestin Brünisholz in the 26th minute of play. The attack was good, but when Gregory Hubli in the 27th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Cláudio Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hubert Martinelli, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 33 minutes into the game, Ernestin Brünisholz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Cláudio Taffarel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Norbert Furst showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lamberto Riedweg in the 36th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Murathan Baransel in the 41st minute of play forced Berne Wanderers FC's goalkeeper Cláudio Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 43 minutes, Lamberto Riedweg managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Berne Wanderers FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lamberto Riedweg was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Brenles FC defense, Robby Schaer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Norbert Furst. The Brenles FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Norbert Furst should have stopped the shot. After the first half Brenles FC were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lamberto Riedweg stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Murathan Baransel's late challenge caught a Berne Wanderers FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Murathan Baransel helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Brenles FC getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Murathan Baransel hit a great ball. Lamberto Riedweg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Norbert Furst having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robby Schaer in the 61st minute of play forced Brenles FC's goalkeeper Norbert Furst to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Norbert Furst showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lamberto Riedweg in the 65th minute of the match. After 65 minutes, Raimund Borner mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Brenles FC and the Berne Wanderers FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 65 played minutes Brenles FC got a freekick which was hit by Raimund Borner. In the 73rd minute, Lamberto Riedweg left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Berne Wanderers FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. In the 75th minute Lamberto Riedweg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Norbert Furst saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Brenles FC's Murathan Baransel got his second yellow card of the match in the 76th minute. The referee ordered Murathan Baransel off the ground. A throw-in in the 80th minute of the game was made by Hans Camiscia with Steffen Schenkel as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Berne Wanderers FC's Kristian Reuteler got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Berne Wanderers FC's Cláudio Taffarel got control of the ball when Ernestin Brünisholz tried to sneak it across the goal line.
