An unexpectedly hard shot by Andre Despland in the 26th minute of play forced Cuba Libre Basel's goalkeeper Yvan Cicchetti to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee ignored Gucci United's protests and gave Philo Amsel a yellow card for diving instead. 46 minutes into the game, one of Gucci United:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. After the first half Gucci United were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Andre Despland was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of Cuba Libre Basel booed when Gucci United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Veltin Lucciotti didn't get a good kick on the ball. Flemming Cavegn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfonso De Grandis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 62 minutes into the game, Gucci United's Noel Beich nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Andre Despland fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yvan Cicchetti having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Cuba Libre Basel's zone, Andre Despland stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Yvan Cicchetti came out of the goal and Andre Despland tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alfonso De Grandis in the 78th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Flemming Cavegn prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After having played for 81 minutes, Alonzo Vermudo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cuba Libre Basel's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alonzo Vermudo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 83rd minute of the match Fidelis Greub shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Yvan Cicchetti showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Urban Plouffe fell near the penalty area in the 84th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cuba Libre Basel's protests and gave Urban Plouffe a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Cuba Libre Basel's Urban Plouffe got a free kick in the 84th minute. 93 minutes into the match, Cuba Libre Basel's goalkeeper Yvan Cicchetti had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Andre Despland. When the match was over Gucci United could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Cuba Libre Basel throughout the match.
