To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Herve Bur showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Glenn Huez in the 12th minute of the match. Martin Rutsch's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Herve Bur read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Giorgos Papaiakovou got free with Herve Bur in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Herve Bur made an important save on a dangerous shot by Özcan Balcik in the 22nd minute. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Glenn Huez to make the kick off.
