After having played for 11 minutes, Sander Van Leemputt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SS Bruges's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sander Van Leemputt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When SS Bruges's Marcelo Ríos in the 19th minute got a chance for a shot 19th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Marcelo Ríos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kristiaan Sommers having to interfere. The SS Bruges fans' excitement grew in the 40th match minute when SS Bruges's Bruno Poels looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 43rd minute of the match, Bruno Poels got a very nice opportunity to score, but Kristiaan Sommers was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Kristiaan Sommers was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Piet Vloebergh showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 4-0 in the 47 minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Marcelo Ríos made a kick off. In a very dangerous position, a player in SS Bruges fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 53rd minute. Penalty! The throw-in from Jasper Van Meerbek in the 56th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by SS Bruges's Jonas Van Craen. Kristiaan Sommers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcelo Ríos, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. In the 62nd minute, Bruno Poels left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The SS Bruges fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-0. Joe Hally charged in rather forcefully in the 69th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Joe Hally the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Joe Hally hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Bruno Poels sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 72 played minutes SS Bruges got a freekick which was hit by Jonas Van Craen. Marcelo Ríos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Joe Hally hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. In the 78thth minute of the game Marcelo Ríos who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Meeuwen-Gruitrode 's Kristiaan Sommers was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Sander Van Leemputt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sander Van Leemputt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kristiaan Sommers having to interfere. In the 84th minute, Sander Van Leemputt ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Kristiaan Sommers was frozen by the shot and now it was 6-0. SS Bruges's Bruno Poels got a good chance for a goal in the 88th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sander Van Leemputt's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kristiaan Sommers read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play. Kristiaan Sommers stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Marcelo Ríos's shot from short distance in the 97th minute. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. SS Bruges fully deserved thier win.
