Spectators: 6730 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1730, VIP seats: 0) Essen's Thobias De Cerpel started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Willy Tubbackx made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Gery Van Campenhout sent off a good shot on target. Emile de Neys showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thobias De Cerpel in the 7th minute of the match. Tibaut Peters sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 14 played minutes Essen got a freekick which was hit by Antoine Saelens. In the 20th minute, Antoine Saelens hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Antoine Saelens fell near the penalty area in the 24th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Essen's protests and gave Antoine Saelens a yellow card for diving instead. Antoine Saelens hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Gery Van Campenhout in the 26thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Willy Tubbackx, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Essen's Willy Tubbackx played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gery Van Campenhout in the 28th minute of play. Gery Van Campenhout kicked a quick shot right in front of the goal in the 33rdth minute. Though ot was a great shot Essen's keeper Willy Tubbackx was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. 42 minutes into the match, Essen's goal looked a bit too open when Tibaut Peters came free, but Willy Tubbackx reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Willy Tubbackx made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gery Van Campenhout in the 48th minute. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Tibaut Peters in the 52nd minute of play forced Essen's goalkeeper Willy Tubbackx to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gery Van Campenhout recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Thobias De Cerpel blasted a shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Emile de Neys having to make a save. When Edwin Van Poucke came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Essen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edwin Van Poucke couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Essen booed when KFC Malmedy was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arnold Van der Veeren didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thobias De Cerpel in the 71st minute of play forced KFC Malmedy's goalkeeper Emile de Neys to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 72nd match minute, KFC Malmedy was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matthew Verhaghe to maneuver through the defense. Thobias De Cerpel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Willy Tubbackx took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tibaut Peters, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tibaut Peters fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Willy Tubbackx having to interfere. In the 94th minute, Thobias De Cerpel got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Thobias De Cerpel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. KFC Malmedy had won after a very even match.
