When Gery Persoens fell near the penalty area in the 3rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored KVE Drongen's protests and gave Gery Persoens a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, KVE Drongen's Gery Persoens got a free kick in the 3rd minute. KVE Drongen's Emmanuel Mampaerts played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edward Van Vyve in the 9th minute of play. Emmanuel Mampaerts made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edward Van Vyve in the 11th minute of play. Stanny Valckenaers was out of position in the 12 minute of play, and Lenny Everts capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Lenny Everts really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Lenny Everts could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Stanny Valckenaers made a huge save. In the 19th minute, Wannes Van der Goten hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Wannes Van der Goten hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Merlemont's Hugo Netels managed to work through KVE Drongen's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Hugo Netels dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. After a defensive mix-up in KVE Drongen's zone, Edward Van Vyve stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Emmanuel Mampaerts came out of the goal and Edward Van Vyve tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Edward Van Vyve had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. KVE Drongen's Emmanuel Mampaerts played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edward Van Vyve in the 28th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edward Van Vyve in the 33rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Emmanuel Mampaerts saved KVE Drongen from getting behind. After 34 minutes, Harrie Van Dock mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the KVE Drongen and the Merlemont players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 34 played minutes KVE Drongen got a freekick which was hit by Harrie Van Dock. Emmanuel Mampaerts took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edward Van Vyve, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jannis Toeback sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 47 minutes into the match, KVE Drongen's goal looked a bit too open when Hugo Netels came free, but Emmanuel Mampaerts reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jannis Toeback to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edward Van Vyve in the 52nd minute of play forced KVE Drongen's goalkeeper Emmanuel Mampaerts to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Edward Van Vyve fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Emmanuel Mampaerts having to interfere. Edward Van Vyve's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Emmanuel Mampaerts read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, KVE Drongen's Kamiel Berrewouts got a free kick in the 64th minute. Hugo Netels sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Emmanuel Mampaerts took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hugo Netels, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 76th minute, Edward Van Vyve managed to get in a good position for a shot. Merlemont's supporters rose to their feet, but Edward Van Vyve was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Emmanuel Mampaerts breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 88 played minutes Merlemont got a freekick which was hit by Edward Van Vyve. Jannick Holemans kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. KVE Drongen's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
