The tension between the Ghent Academy and the Abeelhoek players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Ghent Academy getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Yens Persoons hit a great ball. Abeelhoek's Kristof Vaes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Karel-Jan Paschiers in the 76th minute of play. Johannes Wiggers charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Johannes Wiggers the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 78th minute, one of Abeelhoek:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Abeelhoek. After 83 minutes of play Abeelhoek's Johannes Wiggers was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of Ghent Academy booed when Abeelhoek was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Johannes Wiggers didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Abeelhoek's Philippe-Arnaud Samyn got a free kick in the 93rd minute. If Louis Wiggers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Abeelhoek's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
