Jannis Ivens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emanuel Loozen in the 26th minute of the match. Frank Valckx fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Maxim-Alexander De Clerk having to interfere. Roger Vuerinx's late challenge caught a SC Brussels's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Roger Vuerinx helped the player get up and apologised. In the 29th match minute, R.Standard Liège was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Diederik Pelegrims to maneuver through the defense. Frank Valckx struck a weak shot in the 31st minute. Maxim-Alexander De Clerk didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Brussels. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Frank Valckx was the one to do the kick off. A hard shot by Richey Tkint from long distance, 53 minutes into the match, got Jannis Ivens's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. If Yoachim Van Bettenrode had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Emanuel Loozen succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-1 in the 62nd playminute. Yoachim Van Bettenrode sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Yoachim Van Bettenrode took the ball and in the 75 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Maxim-Alexander De Clerk. Maxim-Alexander De Clerk dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. After some careless play in the R.Standard Liège defense, Frank Valckx kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Maxim-Alexander De Clerk. The R.Standard Liège fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Maxim-Alexander De Clerk should have stopped the shot. After 84 minutes of play, SC Brussels's Frank Valckx made it 4-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Maxim-Alexander De Clerk was left in no man's land by his defense there! After having played for 88 minutes, Yoachim Van Bettenrode managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Brussels's supporters crossed their fingers, but Yoachim Van Bettenrode was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Frank Valckx came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the SC Brussels fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Frank Valckx couldn't finish the play. In the 94th match minute, R.Standard Liège was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cesar Eli to maneuver through the defense. Frank Valckx sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. SC Brussels's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
