Spectators: 7368 (Terracing: 5639, Seating: 1729, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Robbe Gyselincx started the match with the kick off. Virelles's Reemy Tobbackers got a good chance for a goal in the 6th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Reemy Tobbackers in the 8th minute of play forced Gottem's goalkeeper Arno Philippaerts to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Reemy Tobbackers might have been able to make a better finish in the 9th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Arno Philippaerts. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Reemy Tobbackers ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, Gottem's Arno Philippaerts got control of the ball when Jacque Raedemaeckers tried to sneak it across the goal line. Arno Philippaerts took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reemy Tobbackers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 14 minutes into the game, one of Gottem:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Jozef Schrevens made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robbe Gyselincx in the 19th minute of play. After having played for 22 minutes, Robbe Gyselincx managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gottem's supporters crossed their fingers, but Robbe Gyselincx was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Robbe Gyselincx received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Jozef Schrevens tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reemy Tobbackers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Reemy Tobbackers in the 33rd minute of play forced Gottem's goalkeeper Arno Philippaerts to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 34th minute, Virelles's Jacque Raedemaeckers ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Arno Philippaerts. Arno Philippaerts yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. After some careless play in the Virelles defense, Wart Depelsmaker kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jozef Schrevens. The Virelles fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jozef Schrevens should have stopped the shot. Arno Philippaerts made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Reemy Tobbackers in the 41st minute of play. Dante Imberechts hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Reemy Tobbackers to strike the kick off in the second half. Virelles's Reemy Tobbackers got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 55th match minute, Gottem was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andris Ceusters to maneuver through the defense. Jozef Schrevens made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robbe Gyselincx in the 59th minute of play. Robbe Gyselincx blasted a shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jozef Schrevens having to make a save. Jozef Schrevens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Robbe Gyselincx in the 61st minute of the match. Gottem's Arno Philippaerts played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reemy Tobbackers in the 62nd minute of play. After 63 played minutes Gottem got a freekick which was hit by Ruud Rauvoets. Arno Philippaerts came out of the goal in the 64th minute to try and stop a shot by Virelles's Jacque Raedemaeckers. But to his dismay, Jacque Raedemaeckers quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. After 71 minutes, Robbe Gyselincx mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gottem and the Virelles players grew even worse after the yellow card. Jozef Schrevens took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Robbe Gyselincx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 75th minute, Reemy Tobbackers got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Gottem's Arno Philippaerts played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jacque Raedemaeckers in the 79th minute of play. Reemy Tobbackers recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Ruben Van den Dries had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ruben Van den Dries sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jozef Schrevens made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robbe Gyselincx in the 95th minute of play. If Jacque Raedemaeckers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 98th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Virelles fans cheered their team off the field, for while Gottem had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
