Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Staf Dauwen got the match started through his kick off. If Frederic Huygens had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Youri Van Buyten charged in rather forcefully in the 7th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Youri Van Buyten the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 7th minute, Youri Van Buyten hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Staf Schipmans came out of the goal in the 11th minute to try and stop a shot by K.K.A. Gent's Frederic Huygens. But to his dismay, Frederic Huygens quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Staf Dauwen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 16th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Claude Spoelbergs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 23 minutes, Claude Spoelbergs managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ciney's supporters crossed their fingers, but Claude Spoelbergs was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Claude Spoelbergs came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Ciney fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Claude Spoelbergs couldn't finish the play. In the 30th minute Claude Spoelbergs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paul-Louis Michiels saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Davy Roeckeloes hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Claude Spoelbergs's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paul-Louis Michiels read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play. When Ciney's Staf Dauwen in the 45th minute got a chance for a shot 45th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye K.K.A. Gent's goalie prevented a goal. Jacobus Koninkx hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Staf Dauwen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Diederik Vanden Berghe was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diederik Vanden Berghe in the 52nd minute of play forced Ciney's goalkeeper Staf Schipmans to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Diederik Vanden Berghe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Staf Dauwen in the 74th minute of play forced K.K.A. Gent's goalkeeper Paul-Louis Michiels to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Hendrik Bourgignon fell near the penalty area in the 77th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ciney's protests and gave Hendrik Bourgignon a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 76th minute of the game. One of Ciney:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of K.K.A. Gent:s goal. Paul-Louis Michiels stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Claude Spoelbergs's shot from short distance in the 83rd minute. The supporters of Ciney booed when K.K.A. Gent was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Theo Van Laer didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 85th minute, Staf Dauwen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ciney's supporters rose to their feet, but Staf Dauwen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paul-Louis Michiels breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. K.K.A. Gent's Paul-Louis Michiels proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save K.K.A. Gent from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, K.K.A. Gent's Paul-Louis Michiels got control of the ball when Claude Spoelbergs tried to sneak it across the goal line. After having played for 94 minutes, Staf Dauwen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ciney's supporters crossed their fingers, but Staf Dauwen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gent players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
