The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Joey Haemers in the 10th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Charl Verhelst saved EssEffe F.C. from getting behind. Dries Reijnderss short, quick shot in the 15thth minute got Charl Verhelst to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After a rather tough play, EssEffe F.C.'s Leo Provoost got a free kick in the 17th minute. When Mathieu-Maxim Van Bever fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored KAA Assesse's protests and gave Mathieu-Maxim Van Bever a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to KAA Assesse getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Mathieu-Maxim Van Bever hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Joey Haemers managed to get in a good position for a shot. KAA Assesse's supporters rose to their feet, but Joey Haemers was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Charl Verhelst breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Charl Verhelst showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joey Haemers in the 33rd minute of the match. Charl Verhelst took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joey Haemers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Charl Verhelst. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Dries Reijnders in the 56th minute of play forced EssEffe F.C.'s goalkeeper Charl Verhelst to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
