Brecht Dechamps hit a great ball. Marcus Du Bois sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tom Roofhoof scored 0-1 in the 14th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dany-Adams Van den Haute, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 17th minute, Ewout Rijmenams left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The SL Benfica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Marcus Du Bois sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. RC Mechelen's Dany-Adams Van den Haute played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tom Roofhoof in the 26th minute of play. Dany-Adams Van den Haute took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Koen Hemelaers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dany-Adams Van den Haute showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ewout Rijmenams in the 31st minute of the match. Tom Roofhoof took the ball and in the 32 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dany-Adams Van den Haute. Dany-Adams Van den Haute dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. Dany-Adams Van den Haute made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tom Roofhoof in the 39th minute of play. The supporters of SL Benfica booed when RC Mechelen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arnaud Van Kamp didn't get a good kick on the ball. SL Benfica's Yens Baumans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arnold Bormans in the 43rd minute of play. Arnold Bormans was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 45th minute. RC Mechelen's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Gertjan Vrins's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dany-Adams Van den Haute read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 48th minute of play.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Arnold Bormans was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st match minute, RC Mechelen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Brecht Dechamps to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, RC Mechelen's Roben Omblets got a free kick in the 54th minute. After 55 played minutes, SL Benfica's Basiel Dumont shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Dany-Adams Van den Haute came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in SL Benfica reached it. Dany-Adams Van den Haute showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tom Roofhoof in the 57th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ewout Rijmenams during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ewout Rijmenams hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ewout Rijmenams in the 66th minute of play forced RC Mechelen's goalkeeper Dany-Adams Van den Haute to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 69th minute, Mathieu Rummens reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Dany-Adams Van den Haute. The goal made the score 0-6. Roben Omblets's late challenge caught a SL Benfica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Roben Omblets helped the player get up and apologised. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Augustijn Hoes during the 75th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 77th minute there was a penalty for RC Mechelen. Roben Omblets stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Yens Baumans. 1-6. Yens Baumans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Brecht Dechamps in the 80th minute of the match. Tom Roofhoof recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Antonio Coppens hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. Dany-Adams Van den Haute showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Basiel Dumont, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. Arnaud Van Kamp kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match.
