The referee ignored Gierle's protests and gave Lucas Scheppers a yellow card for diving instead. Lucas Scheppers kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. Axell Helssens took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rudi Reyniers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Brecht Imberechts took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Antonio Koninkx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. SK Kolegem's Martin De Marrez got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Antonio Koninkx fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brecht Imberechts having to interfere. Sebbe Huijbrechs might have been able to make a better finish in the 16th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Axell Helssens. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sebbe Huijbrechs ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience was convinced that Rudi Reyniers's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Axell Helssens was relentless in the 16th minute of the game. In the 18th minute Martin De Marrez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brecht Imberechts saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Axell Helssens took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rudi Reyniers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Viktor Calstermans kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. Sebbe Huijbrechss short, quick shot in the 30thth minute got Axell Helssens to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Sebbe Huijbrechs blasted a shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Axell Helssens having to make a save. 38 minutes into the match, SK Kolegem's goal looked a bit too open when Rudi Reyniers came free, but Axell Helssens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rudi Reyniers struck a weak shot in the 43rd minute. Axell Helssens didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gierle. Rudi Reyniers was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 46th minute. Gierle's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Axell Helssens was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Rudi Reyniers showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 48 minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rudi Reyniers stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute Rudi Reyniers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Axell Helssens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sebbe Huijbrechs in the 55th minute of play forced SK Kolegem's goalkeeper Axell Helssens to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sebbe Huijbrechs fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Axell Helssens having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Antonio Koninkx managed to get in a good position for a shot. SK Kolegem's supporters rose to their feet, but Antonio Koninkx was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Brecht Imberechts breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 61 minutes into the match, SK Kolegem's goal looked a bit too open when Sebbe Huijbrechs came free, but Axell Helssens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Sebbe Huijbrechs managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gierle's supporters rose to their feet, but Sebbe Huijbrechs was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sebbe Huijbrechs recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in SK Kolegem's zone, Rudi Reyniers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Axell Helssens came out of the goal and Rudi Reyniers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sebbe Huijbrechs received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Axell Helssens tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gierle's Sebbe Huijbrechs got a good chance for a goal in the 97th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. SK Kolegem's Axell Helssens played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rudi Reyniers in the 98th minute of play.
