FS Gent's Willem-Jan Laermans proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 9th minute of the match, managed to save FS Gent from getting a goal against them. 11 minutes into the match, FS Gent's goal looked a bit too open when Boudewijn Meeus came free, but Willem-Jan Laermans reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Willem-Jan Laermans came out of the goal in the 14th minute to try and stop a shot by Dilsen-Stokkem's Lucas de Neuyter. But to his dismay, Lucas de Neuyter quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. 22 minutes in the game, Matty Raymaekers dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. Gust Van den Bossche's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Willem-Jan Laermans firmly grabbed it by the left post. A collision led to FS Gent getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Alphonse Degens hit a great ball. When Jonathan Van den Panhuyzen came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the Dilsen-Stokkem fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jonathan Van den Panhuyzen couldn't finish the play. 30 minutes into the match, FS Gent's goalkeeper Willem-Jan Laermans had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gust Van den Bossche. Gust Van den Bossche could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Willem-Jan Laermans made a huge save. The FS Gent fans' excitement grew in the 37th match minute when FS Gent's Renzo Dekkers looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Renzo Dekkers stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Renzo Dekkers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of FS Gent booed when Dilsen-Stokkem was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jonathan Van den Panhuyzen didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 68th minute Gust Van den Bossche shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Willem-Jan Laermans saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sylvan de Pelsmaekers kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. Willem-Jan Laermans made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gust Van den Bossche in the 71st minute of play. With 73 minutes on the clock, Jacque Huijgens commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. A collision led to Dilsen-Stokkem getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Jorn Ryers hit a great ball. In the 86th minute, FS Gent's Renzo Dekkers dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-3. Renzo Dekkers struck a weak shot in the 90th minute. Steven Van Beringhen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FS Gent. After 95 minutes, Matty Raymaekers mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dilsen-Stokkem and the FS Gent players grew even worse after the yellow card. FS Gent's Philip Symons couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 96th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Dilsen-Stokkem. FS Gent were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Dilsen-Stokkem's much stronger midfield.
