In the 16th minute, Tommi Vloeberghs got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 20th match minute, Anderlecht was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kurt Van Den Brande to maneuver through the defense. 24 minutes into the match, Anderlecht's goal looked a bit too open when Cornelis Van Eijcke came free, but Jozef Theys reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ivan Lanphant in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Manuel De Graef saved SK Erquennes from getting behind. Anderlecht's Jozef Theys played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cornelis Van Eijcke in the 27th minute of play. Manuel De Graef made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kurt Van Den Brande in the 34th minute of play. Jozef Theys showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cornelis Van Eijcke, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Tom Van Buyten could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Jozef Theys made a huge save. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

If Tom Van Buyten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 90th minute, Fernand Bauwens hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 93rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Anderlecht's goalkeeper Jozef Theys, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 94 minutes, Erik Dewolf managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Anderlecht's supporters crossed their fingers, but Erik Dewolf was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 96 minutes into the match, Tom Van Buyten had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jozef Theys. Anderlecht's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tom Van Buyten was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. SK Erquennes fully deserved thier win.
