Andre Demets was out of position in the 4 minute of play, and Bavo Hoolemans capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Bavo Hoolemans really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Andre Demets made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gill Delen in the 8th minute of play. In the 13th match minute, Royal Club Gent was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ivan Vinck to maneuver through the defense. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jon de Pelsmaeker during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 19 played minutes Team Vleesklak got a freekick which was hit by Jon de Pelsmaeker. The supporters of Royal Club Gent booed when Team Vleesklak was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Henri-Xavier Vranken didn't get a good kick on the ball. 27 minutes into the match, Bavo Hoolemans had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Andre Demets. Royal Club Gent's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bavo Hoolemans was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. After 33 played minutes, Royal Club Gent's Leopold Jennes shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jules Oelemans came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Royal Club Gent reached it. In the 36th minute, Bavo Hoolemans got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Andre Demets made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gill Delen in the 40th minute of play. Royal Club Gent's Andre Demets proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 47th minute of the match, managed to save Royal Club Gent from getting a goal against them.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bavo Hoolemans to make the kick off. If Bavo Hoolemans had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Sergio Jaddon came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Team Vleesklak fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sergio Jaddon couldn't finish the play. In the 56th minute, Gill Delen made a precise shot to the right of Andre Demets. Royal Club Gent's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. 60 minutes into the game, Ivan Vinck was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Royal Club Gent's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Team Vleesklak the free kick. After a rather tough play, Royal Club Gent's Ivan Vinck got a free kick in the 60th minute. In the 68th match minute, Royal Club Gent was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sem Diericx to maneuver through the defense. 69 minutes into the match, Bavo Hoolemans notched a goal, 4-0, to the right of Royal Club Gent's Andre Demets. Andre Demets was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Bavo Hoolemans fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andre Demets having to interfere. Through an outstanding action, after 79 minutes, Jules Oelemans successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After 80 played minutes Team Vleesklak got a freekick which was hit by Henri-Xavier Vranken.
