In the 9th minute of the match, Walter Netels tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Raymond Sannen saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After a defensive mix-up in The Green Tigers's zone, Vicente Van Achter stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rens Maes came out of the goal and Vicente Van Achter tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, The Green Tigers's Jamie Ingelborgh got a free kick in the 27th minute. After having played for 36 minutes, Vicente Van Achter managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Goetegem's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vicente Van Achter was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to The Green Tigers getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Marnix Pelsers hit a great ball. Vicente Van Achter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rens Maes having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Edmond Gielens stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Bernt Coekelbergh hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Nicky Bautmans's long shot made the audience stand up and applaude when it rumbled by Raymond Sannen on his right side and into the goal. 53 minutes into the game it was 1-1. Rens Maes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edmond Gielens in the 63rd minute of play. 67 minutes into the match, The Green Tigers's goal looked a bit too open when Edmond Gielens came free, but Rens Maes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Regis Scheppers was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 68 minutes had been played. After 68 played minutes The Green Tigers got a freekick which was hit by Regis Scheppers. Edmond Gielens struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Rens Maes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Goetegem. Vicente Van Achter blasted a shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rens Maes having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edmond Gielens in the 82nd minute of play forced The Green Tigers's goalkeeper Rens Maes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Edmond Gielens received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Rens Maes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpected shot in the 88th minute by Edmond Gielens got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
