Roland Schrevens's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Richey Englebert read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. cercle brugge's Edward Cuppens pulled a muscle in his back after 29 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The Quillian Rouvoet was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Richey Englebert didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Roland Schrevens went, in the 39th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Manu Van Lint sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 45th minute, Roland Schrevens got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Joost De Raeijmaeker during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of cercle brugge booed when FC Draconia 2 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joost De Raeijmaeker didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half cercle brugge were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

After a defensive mix-up in cercle brugge's zone, Manu Van Lint stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Quillian Rouvoet came out of the goal and Manu Van Lint tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Roland Schrevens managed to get in a good position for a shot. cercle brugge's supporters rose to their feet, but Roland Schrevens was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Richey Englebert breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 93 minutes into the match, cercle brugge's goal looked a bit too open when Jordi Smidts came free, but Quillian Rouvoet reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jordi Smidts received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Quillian Rouvoet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. For all the effort they put into the match, the cercle brugge players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense.
