Spectators: 8011 (Terracing: 6010, Seating: 1842, VIP seats: 159) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Julien Toussain started the match with the kick off. Ian Lenoir received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 5th minute. Bert Nilis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. K. Beerschot VA's Bert Nilis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ian Lenoir in the 6th minute of play. In the 10th minute of the match Varinkshoek got a corner. K. Beerschot VA's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Emile Langendonckx ran over to the corner to take the kick. Ben Laporte fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bert Nilis having to interfere. In the 24th minute, Ian Lenoir left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Varinkshoek fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. In the 31st minute, Ben Laporte ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Bert Nilis was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. After a rather tough play, K. Beerschot VA's Thys Sommers got a free kick in the 36th minute. In the 38th minute Ian Lenoir shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bert Nilis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ian Lenoir in the 43rd minute of play forced K. Beerschot VA's goalkeeper Bert Nilis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Varinkshoek's Ben Laporte got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ian Lenoir sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half Varinkshoek were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Reinaert Verhasselt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julien Toussain, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. K. Beerschot VA's Bert Nilis proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save K. Beerschot VA from getting a goal against them. The supporters of Varinkshoek booed when K. Beerschot VA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thys Sommers didn't get a good kick on the ball. 59 minutes into the match, Varinkshoek's Emile Langendonckx broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. If Ben Laporte had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 77 minutes into the game, Tomm Petris was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Varinkshoek's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave K. Beerschot VA the free kick. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind Varinkshoek's goalkeeper Reinaert Verhasselt, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 82nd minute, Ian Lenoir got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 84 played minutes Varinkshoek got a freekick which was hit by Matthy Van de Weijer. Bert Nilis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ben Laporte in the 86th minute of the match. Bert Nilis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ian Lenoir, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Ian Lenoir had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 95 minutes into the match, K. Beerschot VA's goal looked a bit too open when Ian Lenoir came free, but Bert Nilis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Varinkshoek supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Varinkshoek would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
