KAA Hautrage's supporters crossed their fingers, but Benoit Dujardin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dominic Smet blasted a shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rens Van Damme having to make a save. The supporters of KAA Hautrage booed when Chelsea was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Boudewijn Dewinter didn't get a good kick on the ball. Benoit Dujardin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Rens Van Damme tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Boudewijn Dewinter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fransesco Poels having to interfere. Kieth Haelemans hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dominic Smet in the 41st minute of play forced Chelsea's goalkeeper Rens Van Damme to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 43 minutes into the match, Chelsea's goal looked a bit too open when Dominic Smet came free, but Rens Van Damme reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Philip van Hagenborgh charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Philip van Hagenborgh the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 47th minute, Philip van Hagenborgh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Benoit Dujardin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 48th minute of the match, but Rens Van Damme made a huge save. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Boudewijn Dewinter to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Boudewijn Dewinter shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fransesco Poels saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 53 minutes into the game, Kieth Haelemans was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. KAA Hautrage's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chelsea the free kick. After 89 played minutes, KAA Hautrage's Jan De Maesschalck shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rens Van Damme came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in KAA Hautrage reached it. If Boudewijn Dewinter had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Boudewijn Dewinter hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match.
