Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ferdinand Mergea in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Didier Schollens prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 22 minutes into the match, GentFC's goalkeeper Hudson Costa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Servando Dorado. In the 24th minute, Tugay Kerimoglu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Hudson Costa made a fantastic save in the 26th minute, when Dirk Damman sent off a good shot on target. GentFC's Brent-Jan Van de cauter got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 32nd minute of the match, Servando Dorado tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Hudson Costa saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When Benne Hulsen fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Alpina FC's protests and gave Benne Hulsen a yellow card for diving instead. After 44 played minutes Alpina FC got a freekick which was hit by Benne Hulsen. After the first half GentFC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Didier Schollens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ferdinand Mergea in the 50th minute of the match. Dirk Damman was slow to take the kick. During this time Alpina FC's players had a chance to rest. GentFC played a much better game than Alpina FC and deserved their victory. The Alpina FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
