Ulmich's supporters rose to their feet, but Marco Bohm was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Torsten Gerber breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Torsten Gerber took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marco Bohm, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 10 minutes into the game, Volker Kappestein was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Middlesbrough's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ulmich the free kick. Volker Kappestein kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Middlesbrough's zone, Roman Jani stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Torsten Gerber came out of the goal and Roman Jani tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dirk Meidel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Philipp Bayer in the 24th minute of play. Dirk Meidel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Niklas Schneider in the 25th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marco Bohm in the 29th minute of play forced Middlesbrough's goalkeeper Torsten Gerber to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dirk Meidel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Volker Kappestein, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. In the 36th minute of the match Lars Wolter shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Torsten Gerber showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 38th minute, Marco Bohm hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Volker Kappestein kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. In the 44th minute of the match Nickolas Lohn shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Torsten Gerber showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Niklas Schneider hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. Nickolas Lohn took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 46th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Torsten Gerber. Middlesbrough's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Andre Jennen made a kick off. 54 minutes into the game, Marco Bohm cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Torsten Gerber was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Roman Jani fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Torsten Gerber having to interfere. Ulmich's Dirk Meidel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to save Ulmich from getting a goal against them. If Marco Bohm had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lars Wolter took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 74th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Torsten Gerber. Middlesbrough's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Lars Wolter kicked well hit freekick during the 83rd minute of the match. Middlesbrough's Karsten Holletschek got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Philipp Bayer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dirk Meidel having to interfere. 90 minutes into the match, Marco Bohm had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Torsten Gerber. Middlesbrough's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Marco Bohm was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. The Ulmich support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
