After having played for 25 minutes, Ralf-Willy Wiedmann managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bor. Dortmund's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ralf-Willy Wiedmann was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dortmund's Marcel Schiborr played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paul Põhjala in the 37th minute of play. Marcel Schiborr made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paul Põhjala in the 47th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tim Kaufmann made a kick off. A collision led to Bor. Dortmund getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Enrico Timmermanns hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. The audience was convinced that Tim Kaufmann's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marcel Schiborr was relentless in the 65th minute of the game. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Manchester united fully deserved thier win.
