Christian Klimbacher yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eduard Säuml in the 11th minute of play forced Salzburg's goalkeeper Christian Klimbacher to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 12th minute, Arnold Holzapfel made a precise shot to the right of Gabriel Rathmann. Galatasaray SK's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. After 17 minutes of play, Galatasaray SK's Klaus Beudel made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Christian Klimbacher was left in no man's land by his defense there! Gabriel Rathmann made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arnold Holzapfel in the 22nd minute of play. Eduard Säuml's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Christian Klimbacher firmly grabbed it by the left post. Christian Klimbacher made an important save on a dangerous shot by Stefan Schäfer in the 30th minute. After a rather tough play, Galatasaray SK's Stefan Schäfer got a free kick in the 36th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Eduard Säuml made a kick off. In the 52nd minute, Eduard Säuml ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Christian Klimbacher was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. After a rather tough play, Salzburg's Patrick Tepper got a free kick in the 60th minute. 64 minutes into the game, Klaus Beudel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Galatasaray SK's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Salzburg the free kick. In the 64th minute, Klaus Beudel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Galatasaray SK's Eduard Säuml got a free kick in the 65th minute. When Arnold Holzapfel came up free with the goalie in the 67th minute, the Salzburg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arnold Holzapfel couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Galatasaray SK's zone, Jan-Frederik Wenning stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gabriel Rathmann came out of the goal and Jan-Frederik Wenning tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Christian Klimbacher took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Klaus Beudel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Christian Klimbacher showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eduard Säuml, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Arnold Holzapfel managed to get in a good position for a shot. Salzburg's supporters rose to their feet, but Arnold Holzapfel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gabriel Rathmann breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Christian Klimbacher came out of the goal in the 87th minute to try and stop a shot by Galatasaray SK's Eduard Säuml. But to his dismay, Eduard Säuml quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. Christian Klimbacher showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Stefan Schäfer, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. After 93 played minutes Galatasaray SK got a freekick which was hit by Norman Klimbacher.
