Siro Nastasio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matviy Khrystus, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. After some careless play in the Novovolynsjk FC Shakhtar defense, Matthew Leach kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Saulius Kilčiauskas. The Novovolynsjk FC Shakhtar fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Saulius Kilčiauskas should have stopped the shot. 24 minutes into the game, one of Novovolynsjk FC Shakhtar:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The goalkeeper, Saulius Kilčiauskas, was totally fooled by Kyiv's Matthew Leach, who 26 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Orest Balytskyi's late challenge caught a Kyiv's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Valeriy Derypapa got free with Saulius Kilčiauskas in the 45th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 47 minutes, Bogdan Khrienko managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Novovolynsjk FC Shakhtar's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bogdan Khrienko was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.
