A collision led to Kızılyıldız SK getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Ali Numan Benli hit a great ball. In the 9th minute, Onurhan Selman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ali Numan Benli might have been able to make a better finish in the 12th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tugay Özgun. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ali Numan Benli ran back to his position shaking his head. The referee gave Kızılyıldız SK a penalty, 15 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Remzi Soner, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of GALATASARAY's Tugay Özgun. 1-0. Teoman Tuğsavan struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Suat Koray didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for GALATASARAY. Suat Koray came out of the goal in the 21st minute to try and stop a shot by GALATASARAY's Onurhan Selman. But to his dismay, Onurhan Selman quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. In the 27th match minute, Kızılyıldız SK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mustafa Namık Kamver to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Kızılyıldız SK's Mustafa Namık Kamver got a free kick in the 33rd minute. Polat Himmet took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 34th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Suat Koray. Kızılyıldız SK's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Kızılyıldız SK's Suat Koray played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Onurhan Selman in the 36th minute of play. Sertel Niğdeli recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 42nd minute Teoman Tuğsavan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Suat Koray saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. It was a well-played corner which Mustafa Yaşar Arpacı managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Teoman Tuğsavan made the kick off in the second half. Suat Koray took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Teoman Tuğsavan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tugay Özgun showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Evren Ünlü, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Murathan Kalagay was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 82 minutes into the match. Tugay Özgun took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nacho D'Alessandro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ali Numan Benli blasted a shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Tugay Özgun having to make a save. Kızılyıldız SK's Mustafa Namık Kamver got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tugay Özgun showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ali Numan Benli, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
